SD Route: Entry Qualifications

  • Honours degree: 2:2 or above preferably in a primary curriculum subject area or education-based. 

 

  • Applicants who will complete their Honours degree by the end of the academic year 2022-23 are welcome to apply but any offer of a place will be conditional on their gaining the predicted classification by the deadline date.

 

  • Prior experience in a school is not required. Candidates for this route must already have a school in place prior to interview, willing to employ them for the duration of the training year.  

  • GCSE English Language, mathematics and science grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).The Shire Alliance will consider applicants who have one of these qualifications pending, but they must all be in place by the date of enrolment of the programme. Recognised equivalency tests are accepted.

 

  • Overseas equivalent qualifications are accepted if they have been certified through ENIC [the UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills.]

 

  • An assessment of fundamental English and mathematics knowledge will be undertaken prior to the award of QTS. Any shortfalls must be addressed by the trainee teacher.

  • All successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS and medical check
